Port Elizabeth and Surroundings

Birds are plentiful in the Port Elizabeth area. Popular destinations include Tankatara, home to over 130 species, as well as Settlers Park, Lady Slipper and the Cotswold Quarry. A smorgasbord of nature reserves, river mouths, estuaries and trails, provide a picturesque setting for birdwatching.

Roadside Birding

There are various roadside birding spots between Port Alfred and St Francis as well as in the nearby Karoo area. Travellers and adventurous birders can delight in sightings of species such as the Cardinal Woodpecker and Temminck’s Courser, to name a few.
